Adam LaRoche: Becomes Free Agent Staff

Update: LaRoche declined the $10 million option on his contract for next season and became a free agent Thursday, the Washington Post reports.

Recommendation: The Nationals agreed to their half of the mutual option on LaRoche's contract, but LaRoche, after hitting 33 home runs and knocking in 100 runs last season, would prefer to seek a multi-year deal on the heels of that performance. LaRoche has said he wants to stay in Washington, but other teams will now be able to compete for his services as well.
