With Jay Ajayi looking like the favorite to take over from the now departed Lamar Miller as the Miami Dolphins starting running back, new head coach Adam Gase has opened up a little bit about the potential role Ajayi will be playing in the team’s new offense this season.

“Any time you’re playing that spot in this offense, you have to be able to do it all. It’s not a one-trick pony type of offense. You have to be able to run the ball. So we really don’t believe in, ‘Hey, you’re just a first- and second-down back.’ I don’t know what that means. We look for guys that can stay on the field all three downs because we’re not looking to ‘sub’ personnel.”

With former Boise State star Jay Ajayi having the looks of an every down running back, this will be seen as good news for both him and the team. With Ryan Tannehill also looking to improve this season, making sure to have a talented and solid running game is a must for Ajayi and Adam Gase.

“We want guys that can be in great shape, stay out there and then, if we need to switch somebody out because we’re having a long drive, then so be it. But really, whoever the guy is that we’re starting with in the series, that’s the guy I want to finish.”

With Kenyan Drake representing the nearest challenger to Jay Ajayi’s role as the team’s starter, it looks certain that the second year pro will be the starter this season for the Miami Dolphins. With his tough running style and experience from college, Ajayi could be the best fit for the Dolphins running game this season.

Should Ajayi prove to be a good choice for the position, Ryan Tannehill could be the biggest beneficiary. Possessing a solid running game would take pressure off of the shoulders of Tannehill, allowing him more opportunities in the passing game.

With new head coach Adam Gase coming to the Miami Dolphins, he will definitely be looking to improve the teams offense. With the current setup on offense, there is no doubt in my mind that Gase is doing everything he can to ensure a quick turnaround for the Miami Dolphins this season.
