FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) -- Five harness-racing drivers were being evaluated at hospitals Friday night after their horses ran into the starting car at Freehold Raceway.
The raceway said Cat Manzi, Debra Rucker, Vincent Ginsburg, Chris Scicluna and Jim Pantaleano were receiving medical attention and that all of the horses were reported to be OK.
The accident happened in the first turn in the fifth race when the starting car spun around toward the inside of the track. The race was declared no-contest and the remaining races were canceled.
Freehold is scheduled to resume racing Saturday.
