The San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to work out wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins by the end of the week, according to Comcast Sports Net Bay Area.
Hawkins was released by the New England Patriots on Wednesday after signing with them in May. He played five seasons for the Tennessee Titans.
He was a fourth round draft pick in 2008 after playing collegiately at California.
Hawkins was limited to seven games last year due to an ankle injury. He made five receptions for 62 yards.
For his career, he has 71 catches for 771 yards with one touchdown in 52 games.
The 49ers already worked out free agent wide receivers Laurent Robinson and Austin Collie on Thursday.
The team is particularly thin at wide receiver. Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham are on the physically-unable-to-perform list, and A.J. Jenkins, Kassim Osgood and Kyle Williams have each missed several practices with hamstring injuries.
