Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball coach Mark Price announces the addition of Georgia’s Gordon State College standout Jailan Haslem, a 6-foot-10 center, who has signed a National Letter Of Intent to play for the 49ers.

“I extremely excited to add Jailan to our program,” said Price, who is heading into his third season at Charlotte. “He is a young man that brings a lot of size, energy and effort to our program. He is a great young man that has his priorities straight and we are looking forward to adding him to our Charlotte 49ers family.”

This past season, Haslem started all 31 of Gordon State’s game while averaging 9.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. He recorded eight doubles-doubles and had four games with at least 15 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds against South Georgia Tech. He scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against Central Georgia Tech.

“Jailan has worked very hard and turned himself into a Division I player,” Gordon State College coach Bruce Capers said. “He has a soft shooting touch with a nice midrange game. He can score in a variety of ways with his back to the basket. He is a grown man who is big and strong. Jailan is a person with tremendous character who has an incredible work ethic.”

The Warner Robins, Georgia native earned first-team all-conference, all-county and second-team all-region honors at Northside High School. As a senior, he averaged 10.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

“It’s a huge opportunity to be able to play for Charlotte under a collegiate and NBA legend in Coach Price,” Haslem said. “Coming from a junior college, I can’t afford to make mistakes so I believe Charlotte is the perfect place for me with a great coaching staff and academics. The team around me is solid and full of good guys. When I came to Charlotte for a visit, we seemed to have instant chemistry and our games complement each other. I’m very excited to play for the Charlotte 49ers.”

Joining Haslem in the 49ers 2017 recruiting class is Cape Fear Community College (N.C.) standout 6-foot-8 forward Devarte Watson. Haslem and Watson join a 49ers roster which features All-Conference USA guard Jon Davis, 2016 All-Conference USA freshman team selection guard Andrien White, guards Austin Ajukwa and Hudson Price and forward Najee Garvin.
