The San Francisco 49ers are paying linebacker Aldon Smith while he is on the non-football injury/illness list, according to NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk.
Smith is in an unspecified treatment center getting help stemming from last week's arrest for suspicion of DUI.
Teams are not required to pay players while they are on the NFI list and the designation does not count against the 53-man roster.
Smith has reportedly already been paid his game check after missing Thursday night's 35-11 victory over the St. Louis Rams.
He can stay on the NFI list indefinitely. It is not known how long Smith will be out but most in-patient rehab programs generally last about a month.
