While these players may not all be first round quality, this series will look at players across all the rounds that the Philadelphia Eagles could select during the draft process.
Moving on from last Friday’s potential first or second round selection in wide receiver Curtis Samuel, today, we take a look at a player that could be the selection for Philly on day two of the NFL Draft. Missing over a month after breaking his orbital bone in a fight against a teammate, Tyus Bowser had a great recovery effort last season to earn second team All-AAC honors. Originally seen as a potential first round pick before the season began, the injury and fight did have an effect on his draft stock, sending him down to a second or third round selection now.
That said, Bowser was an extremely talented player at Houston. A big force in each of the last two campaigns, Bowser was a key reasons for the Cougar’s success under Tom Hermon. A solid pass rusher that racked up a team high 8.5 sacks last season, Bowser is someone that should make an impact at the NFL level once he earns his chance to start.
An outside linebacker, Bowser is extremely explosive off the edge. Having instincts that rival some of the best, Bowser is a player that coaches will love to use on third down pass rush situations. Showed some great improvement over the last year and is someone that can now be trusted to help stop the run.
A top performer in four of his five combine events, Tyus Bowser is a player that should rank near the top in many intangibles. Possessing a solid ability to cover tight ends and can also change direction instantly. Also has the potential to play in a variety of linebacker positions thanks to his athletic talent.
Despite weighing in at almost 250 pounds, Tyus Bowser is a player that is undersized for an EDGE role at the NFL level. Struggling against bigger offensive linemen, Bowser will be someone that needs develop his skills to outweigh his size. Also struggles with hand placement when attacking and trying to shed blocks.
Most of his sacks and pass rushes in college came due to his athletic ability and not football skills. Will need to improve these if he wants to be a consistent force in the NFL. While he has improved against the run, identifying and busting through to the runner are two areas he will need to improve at.
