News-Herald players of the week for Feb. 15

Feb. 15—Shelby Childress

Wickliffe>>Girls bowling


On the lanes: Placed second at the CVC tournament behind her teammate. Followed with the top individual game in the sectional tournament with a 248 and finished with a 612 (193-171- 248) series, helping the team advance to the district round with a second-place team finish.

Off the lanes: Will attend Savannah College of Art and Design and plans to join the bowling team. "I spend most of my free time creating art, watching movies and partaking in photography. But when I'm not caught up in my hobbies I like to volunteer at places like the Lake Humane Society and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. However I'd have to say, above all else, my focus is on art. I have collectively received many awards and nominations in the field, and I plan to pursue art not only in college, but as a career once I graduate."

On the court: Against Euclid, led the team with 33 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Against Cleveland Heights, had 37 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

Off the court: "IB" will study and play basketball at the University of Findlay. Favorite sports memory is winning the district championship against Brush his sophomore year. Favorite show is "Young Sheldon." Favorite book is the Bible. Favorite subjects are English and Language Arts. Favorite food is pasta and meatballs.

Riverside>>Boys swimming and diving


In the pool: Swam breaststroke in the 200 medley relay at the Division I sectional with a personal-best split of 27.45. Anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay with a PR split of 22.12. Also had a best time of 22.37 in finishing third in the 50 free and a best time of 1:01.27 in winning the 100 breast for the second year in a row.

Out of the pool: "Matty Ice" will attend John Carroll to play soccer and study business or accounting. Enjoys playing video games with friends and spending summers outside.

On the court: Scored 49 points over the last three Kirtland games with 24 against Chardon while also totaling 10 assists. He is in his third year as the starting point guard and is also the team's leader in steals with over four per game
