Strongside defensive end
The Tar Heels are offering several Class of 2020 prospects and one of those that was recently extended was Jacolbe Cowan. Cowan, a 6-5, 252-pound defensive end that hails from Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC.
The standout tallied 70 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in the 2016 season earning post season honors of CISAA All Conference.
Cowan stated back in April at Rivals Camp that he thought an offer from UNC was coming soon and the Tar Heels extended the offer on Saturday. Cowan stated in an earlier interview that the Heels were one of the team he was a fan of growing up as a youngster.
THI recently caught up with Cowan to get his reaction on the UNC offer and his thoughts on the Tar Heels.
What's your thoughts on getting an offer from UNC?
"Getting an offer from UNC means a lot especially being that they were the first school that I took an unofficial visit to."
What UNC coach are you in contact with?
"Coach Gunter Brewer is my area recruiter, but I also keep in contact with Coach Deke Adams."
What are some things you like about him?
"I like how Coach Brewer brings a unique swag to the way he coaches. He also takes the time to get to know you and your family which is very important to me. Coach Adams teaches his guys the proper fundamentals and techniques to succeed at the next level and it shows by the number of defensive linemen that he has coached who are now professional players."
What position are they recruiting you for?
"I am being recruited as a defensive end."
What are some things they like about you?
"They like how I carry myself as an individual and student athlete."
What do you like about UNC, the campus and school?
"I like the overall atmosphere of UNC and the fan base is incredible. The school is one of the top in the nation when it comes to academics and that is very important to me."
What do you think of Coach Fedora and UNC Football program?
"I think Coach Fedora is a great person who takes the time to form unique relationships with his players. The UNC football program definitely has something special going on you can tell by the energy of everyone."
Do you like their schemes and how do you think you could fit it?
"They run a great defensive scheme that allows there players to make plays. And I think I would fit in good with this style of play."
How many offers? What schools are also interested in you?
"I have 17 offers, schools that are recruiting me are Alabama, Southern Cal, Washington, Michigan, Auburn, Clemson and Ohio State."
What are your plans for the summer football-wise?
"As far as plans for this summer, I am mainly focused on become a stronger more explosive player and making sure I continue to improve with using proper technique."
