A new ‘Global Nations League’ could replace the World Cup

div>Despite early skepticism, the UEFA Nations League has been an unbridled success. It has revitalised international breaks, it has provided us with competitive games between high-ranking (and equally matched) sides and it benefits nations of all sizes.

CONCACAF’s version will get up and running next season, while other federations are also discussing their own versions.

Seeing the opportunity to grow who game (and revenues), FIFA have proposed a Global Nations League, whereby tournaments from all five federations would feed into one mini-tournament.

If it is as successful as the UEFA version, this new global format could easily usurp the World Cup as the planet’s biggest soccer competition…
