Nets’ Ben Simmons thinks he’s been a ‘great leader’ so far

Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons is physically looking the best that he has been in the past few seasons. After recovering from multiple injuries, including the nerve impingement in his back that prematurely ended his 2022-23 season, Simmons is not only ready for his role as a player, but as a leader as well.

Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has previously said that he is challenging Simmons to be the best he can be on the court, but also, if he’s going to have the ball in his hands all of the time, he has to be a leader for the team as well. So far, Simmons has shown that he is willing to be the point guard and leader that Brooklyn is asking for.

Simmons looked great in the preseason and as such, he will most likely be the starting point guard on Wednesday when the Nets open their 2023-24 season at Barclays Center against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Simmons recently did an interview with Australian reporter Brad Blanks and he had this to say about his leadership performance:

“I think being a leader is one of those things where you can lead in many different ways. I think, for me, I try to lead by example. I’ve had the opportunity now to go into this team (the Nets) and do that. So, I’ve been blessed with that opportunity and I think I’ve been a great leader so far.”
