Nelson Cruz makes history with second three-HR game in 10-day span
Nelson Cruz is on a home run tear that has reached historic proportions.
It was just 10 days ago that the Minnesota Twins designated hitter slugged three home runs in a game against the Chicago White Sox.
On Saturday, he did it all over again, slugging three more homers and driving in five runs in an 11-3 victory against the Kansas City Royals. In doing so, Cruz became the first player in Twins history to have multiple three-homer games in a single season.
And that’s not even the coolest historical footnote.
After the July 25 game served as Cruz’s first three-homer game some 15 seasons and 1,645 games into his career, Saturday’s sequel made him the oldest player in MLB history to do it twice in a single season.

Cruz turned 39 on July 1.
Since July 16, he’s been nearly unstoppable at the plate. In that three-week span, he’s connected on 13 of his 30 home runs this season.
Cruz is now tied with Max Kepler for the team lead in home runs. As a team, the Twins have 216 home runs this season. That has them on pace to shatter the New York Yankees’ single-season record of 267 that was set in 2018.
