Nebraska TE Gilbert arrested on burglary charge

A Nebraska tight end was arrested for burglary on Tuesday morning. Arik Gilbert was arrested in Lancaster County, per police records.

Gilbert is accused of shattering the glass door to SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop around 2:00 AM Tuesday. Police have stated that the glass door was broken with a large piece of cement in a nearby parking lot.

Head coach Matt Rhule told the media on Tuesday that Gilbert had been dealing with some issues

“Had been really proud of the job he had done in the spring and summer. To be honest, during camp, he’s had some struggles. He’s been working to overcome them. We have a great group of people who are trying to help him, and then obviously last night happened, so I don’t have a lot of details. I got a quick phone call before I went out on the field. Sad and disappointed for him and his family. For the business owner. We have to work through it and move forward.”

The tight end transferred to Nebraska after having previously played at Georgia and LSU. He is still awaiting a ruling from the NCAA regarding his eligibility.

The head coach was unwilling to discuss Gilbert’s future with the team.
