A 2023 Nebraska quarterback recruit was named the MVP at a Philadelphia recruitment camp over the weekend. Three-star commit William Watson III won the Most Valuable Player at the Rivals Camp in Philadephia on Sunday. Watson, 6’0″ 175 pounds, is out of Springfield Central High School in Springfield, Massachusetts.  Watson committed to Nebraska back in late February and was personally recruited by new Cornhusker offensive coordinator Mark Whipple. In 2021, Watson threw for 2026 and 22 touchdowns while running for 590 yards and seven touchdowns, leading Central High to a 10-2 mark and the Massachusetts Division 1 State title.

Watson is currently one of five players committed to the Huskers 2023 recruiting class. The other four players are

  • Gunnar Gottula – Offensive Tackle – Lincoln, NE

  • Benjamin Brahmer – Wide Receiver – Pierce, NE

  • Sam Sledge – Interior Offensive Line – Omaha, NE

  • Dwight Bootle II – Cornerback – Miami, FL
