ND picks up 11th win

Jan. 12—ELNORA — North Daviess protected the home turf on Friday night as the Cougars led the entire way inside the Den with a 47-38 SWIAC victory versus Shakamak.

The lead for ND was just four points at the end of one quarter, 13-9, and the advantage remained the same at intermission with the Cougars fronting 28-24. After three periods of action, ND pushed ahead 40-31 and spread the floor throughout the fourth frame to achieve the nine-point winning margin.

Senior Landon Swartzentruber led a balanced offensive effort with 14 markers. Sophomore Aaron Marner hit three straight 3s off the bench in the middle quarters for nine while senior Homecoming king Travis Raber and sophomore Collin Lengacher provided eight each. Max Toy added five, Wyatt Bishop a bucket, and Keaton Graber a late free throw.

Coach Brent Dalrymple, who was presented with a plaque prior to the varsity tip-off for reaching the 350 career wins plateau in his 24th year at North Daviess, remarked: "Tonight was a great win on Homecoming; the kids really showed up to play. Defensively, I couldn't ask for much more. Time to get ready for next weekend at Linton and at Barr-Reeve."

Shakamak leading scorer JT May managed just eight points on the evening; sophomore Jaden Johnson led the Lake Show with 15 markers.

In the preliminary, the JV Cougars (8-4) won by the final score of 45-27. Grady Callison led a balanced attack with 11 points.

North Daviess improved their season slate to 11-3. The Cougars head to Linton-Stockton for another important conference affair on Friday before toting the Buggy Bowl trophy with them to Barr-Reeve for a battle with the Vikings next Saturday night.
