NCAAW Top 25: UConn moves to No. 2; Pac-12 dominates rest of top 4

Louisville experienced a big jump last week in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings. Now the Cardinals are falling back again after a loss to unranked Ohio State, a movement that shows how exciting the women’s game has been to start the 2019-20 campaign.

Stanford remains ranked No. 1 in the country in the poll out Monday, earning 27 of the 30 first-place media votes, while Louisville fell from No. 2 to No. 7. UConn rose after a statement victory against Notre Dame on its home court while Oregon State and South Carolina each moved up a spot with Louisville’s loss.

Oregon, the preseason favorite for a title and previous No. 1 before losing to Louisville, held at No. 3.

Movement of note

Mississippi State dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since the final poll of 2016. The Bulldogs lost to West Virginia, 71-65, and for it the Mountaineers climbed to a No. 22 ranking after receiving votes last week.

Indiana again moved up, this time by two spots to No. 12. The Hoosiers continued to best their highest ranking in program history.

Arizona continues its strong season as another top 25 team out of the Pac-12 conference. The Wildcats (9-0) are ranked No. 18 and have their best start in 20 years. A win this week would make it the best in the program’s history.

As for the Pac-12 teams in the rankings right now: No. 1 Stanford (8-0), No. 3 Oregon (7-1), No. 4 Oregon State (8-0), No. 10 UCLA (8-0) and No. 18 Arizona (9-0). Arizona State (7-2) received a vote in this week’s poll. Colorado is also undefeated at 8-0.
