CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Clemson linebacker Mike Jones Jr. has entered the NCAA transfer portal, becoming the first player to be leaving the Tigers' top 15 defense that was projected to have all 11 starters returning next season.
The Clemson offense got a big shot in the arm on Jan. 14, when wide receiver Justyn Ross announced he is returning to Clemson for one more season. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound receiver missed all of the 2020 season after undergoing spinal surgery last June. Though nothing officially was released by Clemson on Ross’ current health status, it seems certain the star receiver was cleared to play given the video of his return posted on Clemson Football’s official social media platforms.
If there was one position on the roster that Clemson didn't have to worry about heading into the 2020 season, it was the quarterback. The Tigers had the luxury of not only having Heisman runner-up Trevor Lawrence as their starter, but they also had freshman phenom D.J. Uiagalelei as his backup. Lawrence started the season on fire, leading Clemson to a 6-0 start, that included a 42-17 win over seventh-ranked Miami.
