PAM MALDONADO: You want to be a better sports bettor? Pam Maldonado here to give you four betting tips for week one of college football. Number one, analysis paralysis, it is a thing. If you do your own study, less is more. Just because there's 30 stats available does not mean you have to use all 30 stats. Two stats that I use religiously is offensive line and pass rush. Can a team protect its quarterback or can an opponent pressure a quarterback?

Betting tip number two, tailing the same handicappers. Pick a handful and stick with that group throughout the season. The more handicappers you add, the more opinions you get, and the more confusing it can be. Look for those who post a record, and look for consistency. Is a handicapper losing a lot? Then they're a good fade. Is a handicapper winning a lot? Then they're a good follow.

Betting tip number three, keep your excitement in check. There's 50 games in week one of college football and every week after. You don't have to bet all 50 games. Narrow it down to just a handful and stick to high-conviction bets only. If the game is too close to call, then avoid the game entirely. Don't bet it. Be a fan. I promise you watching football is just as much fun.

Betting tip number four, don't bet with your heart. I love my Longhorns. Hook 'em Horns. But I also know I can't look at Texas objectively. I know not to bet on or against my own team. Be a fan of your team, but leave them off the card. And when in doubt, just remember it's about cashing tickets.
