STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Mitchell Beauford scored 16 points and Ricky Lucas added 12 points and eight rebounds to lead Stony Brook to a 62-53 victory over winless New Jersey Tech on Monday night. Nesho Milosevic scored 15 points for the Highlanders (0-12). Lucas converted a missed shot by Beauford just before the halftime buzzer to give the Seawolves (2-7) a 30-24 lead. Stony Brook opened the second half with an 8-2 run capped by a breakaway layup by Eddie Castellanos with just over 17 minutes remaining. Beauford's drive ended a 6-0 run that gave the Seawolves their largest lead of the game, 51-34, with just under 11 minutes to play. New Jersey Tech used a 12-1 run to get within 55-51 on two free
New Indiana coach Archie Miller will have financial incentive to schedule better than his predecessor did. In his nine-year tenure as Indiana coach, Tom Crean scheduled a remarkable 23 non-league opponents who finished the season with an RPI of 300 or worse. Crean’s successor will have a financial incentive not to continue that practice.
The University of Florida captured its first College World Series after 103 seasons. The University of Florida swept past LSU on Tuesday night to win its first College World Series. The Gators won the game 6-1, closing out the best-of-three series in consecutive games.
