On a night filled with emotions, the two Pac-12 Washington schools squared off for the last time in Pullman as conference rivals. Senior outside hitter May Pertofsky gave a great performance once again with 12 kills, but the offense was stifled in all facets, and the Washington volleyball team dropped its conference opener to No. 7 Washington State in three straight sets. Throughout Thursday night, the Huskies proved it was no match for a Cougars (11-1, 1-0 Pac-12) squad that entered the showdown with a nine-game winning streak. Contrary to how many games have gone for UW early in the season, the Huskies consistently found themselves behind early in sets, with WSU opening up 8-1, 8-2, and 8-3 leads, respectively, in the three sets to put its in-state rival into quick, but deep, holes.
