SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Buddy Boeheim made four 3-pointers and finished with 23 points, Marek Dolezaj had 20 points - including two free throws with 22 seconds left - and Syracuse rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to beat Bryant 85-84 on Friday in the season opener for both teams.
A team that surrenders more threes – by far – than any other team in the conference needs to figure out a way to better guard the 3-point line. So, how to fix it? Will the experience up top help Joe Girard and Buddy Boeheim understand how to positionally guard and potentially cheat better to contain quicker, savvier guards?
Girard took the starting point guard role from Jalen Carey for Syracuse’s third game against Seattle. He started every game for the Orange from that point onward. Girard averaged 12.4 points per game, good enough for third on the team behind Elijah Hughes and Buddy Boeheim.
