The transformation of St. John’s continues as the Johnnies land 6’4” guard Montez Mathis, who transfers from Rutgers with up to two years of eligibility remaining. Mathis, a 200 pound guard known to be a good defender, chose St. John’s over Clemson. Originally from Maryland, he was a top-100 recruit coming out of high school with offers from the likes of Connecticut.
In 2019, Sitkowski entered the portal but was persuaded to stay in Piscataway once the Scarlet Knights hired Greg Schiano as head coach. The former four-star recruit in the Class of 2018 was named the starting quarterback for Rutgers as a freshman. He struggled mightily completing just 49.4% of his passes.
The best player Rutgers lost to the transfer portal this offseason announced his next destination on Friday. Center Myles Johnson announced on Twitter that he will transfer to UCLA, moving closer to his home in Long Beach, California. Among the most academically-driven athletes in college sports, Johnson will continue his basketball career at an elite engineering institution.
