Oregon still doesn't know who its starting quarterback is going to be next Saturday against New Mexico, but the most pressing question of preseason camp has been answered: Yes, the Ducks will be breaking out the freaky "carbon" helmets at some point this year, if their sudden appearance at this morning's practice is any indication.
The helmets were originally introduced last summer as part of the Ducks' annual uniform fashion show, but somehow wound up being ignored among the hundreds of possible game-day combinations at the Ducks' disposal on any given weekend. (Turns out the unofficial uniform coordinator prefers the occasional throwback look, I guess.)
FYI, the middle strip says "WTD," for "Win the Day," and "FAST HARD FINISH," for the benefit of some Nike exec's inner 13-year-old. They also come with logos. There is no official count on how many innocent microphones gave their lives so that these spectacular spearing machines may live.
