Princeton defeats Harvard 58-55

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP)—Princeton’s Dan Mavraides converted 6-of-8 free throw attempts in the last 32 seconds of the game to lock up a 58-55 win over Harvard Friday night.

The six free throws were Mavraides’ only points of the game.

Both teams were sluggish offensively. A layup by Jason Briggs gave Princeton (10-11, 5-3 Ivy League) a 16-11 lead with 7:40 to go in the first half. Harvard (10-13, 2-7) then went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-16 lead and maintained a four-point margin at halftime.

Harvard led 49-48 with 3:32 left in the game before a pair of free throws by Kareem Maddox put Princeton ahead for good.

Douglas Davis led Princeton with 12 points.

Drew Housman had a game-high 16 points for Harvard, and Jeremy Lin added 13 for the Crimson.
