Rod Walker: Pelicans peaking at right time after starting business trip with impressive win in L.A.

Perhaps it was the wake-up call or kick in the rear the New Orleans Pelicans desperately needed. When Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. drained that game-winning pull-up 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left on St. Patrick's Day, it looked as if he not only buried the shot, but also the Pelicans' season. Many people wrote the Pelicans' obituary that night, understandably so considering the Pels blew a double digit lead against one of the worst teams in the NBA to start off what was supposed to be a fairly easy 4-game stretch against three non-playoff teams: (Rockets twice, San Antonio Spurs and Hornets). Jonas Valancuinas summed it up best that night in Houston.

Pelicans blow out Clippers for 4th straight win

Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas had double-doubles and the visiting New Orleans Pelicans dominated the Los Angeles Clippers 131-110 on Saturday night. Ingram, coming off his first career triple-double, had 32 points and a career-high 13 assists, and Valanciunas had 17 points as 13 rebounds as the Pelicans (37-37) won their fourth consecutive game to start a crucial four-game road trip. New Orleans made a season-high 21 3-pointers, led by Trey Murphy III's career-high 10 on 12 attempts.

CJ McCollum takes subtle, playful jab at Trail Blazers' misfortunes

New Orleans Pelicans' CJ McCollum appeared to be quite pleased that the Portland Trail Blazers will miss the postseason during his postgame media session Saturday night. The former Blazers star, following the Pelicans' 131-110 win at the LA Clippers, was asked about his former team missing the postseason. The Blazers traded McCollum prior to the 2022 trade deadline in a move that signaled a roster reset. McCollum spent nine seasons with the Blazers and for seven of them helped form one of the best backcourt scoring duos in the NBA along with his good friend, Damian Lillard.
