All-Star guard James Harden is reportedly expected to re-sign with the Philadelphia 76ers on a deal shorter and less lucrative than the max contract. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, sources believe Harden will sign a two-year extension with the Sixers for less than the maximum after opting into the final year of his contract at a salary of over $47.3 million for next season.
Fischer also said that it’s believed Harden will be “sacrificing some annual dollars,” which certainly suggests that he’d be opting out of his $46.87 million player option in order to sign at a lower number for 2022-23 — again, there’s already been some buzz about this happening. One component of Melton’s defense that amplifies his value is his knack for playing bigger than his size. The Sixers didn’t have many of those dudes last season. The Memphis Grizzlies certainly did (and, collectively, were a bigger team), Melton included, which helps explain why they’ve finished top seven in defensive rating the past two years and were rather exceptional in 2021-22.
