Listen, I don't blame you for being frustrated, Kevin Love(notes). Omerica's very strict tourism laws certainly seem counterproductive, and arguably out of touch with a global business structure increasingly predicated on economic interdependence, which one can argue would be greatly simplified by less stringent travel policies.
Plus, promoting a wide-open path to entry, only to harshly reject your attempt at the last moment? That smacks of false advertising; beyond that, it's just rude. I've got a good mind to write an angry letter to Premier/Minister for Travel and Tourism/Vice President of Bounty Hunting Omer Asik(notes) to protest your treatment.
And I'll tell you something else — there's no way we're going there on our honeymoon now. I don't care how good Anthony Bourdain says the fried capybara is.
