NBA DFS Pick No. 1: Kenyon Martin Jr. — $17

As the NBA heads down the home stretch of the regular season, every team will fall into one of two categories: Those with something to play for, and those tanking to no end. There is no doubt which side of the coin the 16-50 Rockets fall on, as they ruled John Wall out weeks ago due to a minor hamstring tweak and continue to rest an abundance of players on the daily. Today is no different, as legitimately half the team is questionable to play, with only four players carrying no injury designation.

Among those four healthy options, Martin looks to be locked in to the most secure role no matter how the other injury news shakes out. He was forced into heavy duty, logging 44 minutes in Wednesday’s loss to the 76ers. He was extremely productive in that time, putting up 48 Yahoo fantasy points on 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. There is no question that he’s going to be relied upon for a similar workload tonight, so at just $17 Martin is still at a steep discount.

NBA DFS Pick No. 2: Bam Adebayo — $36

Center is absolutely loaded this evening, so there is a caveat with this pick: If Jimmy Butler (questionable) is ruled in, there is no need to roster Bam Adebayo. The opportunity cost at the position is immense, with the likes of Mohamed Bamba, Moritz Wagner and Nikola Vucevic all standing out as exceptional point-per-dollar options. And that’s not even taking into account the sort of ceilings that exists at the top end with plays such as Nikola Jokic and Karl-Anthony Towns.

But if Butler sits, Adebayo separates himself from the bunch. In 981 minutes with Butler off the floor this season, Adebayo sports a 25.4% usage rate, 17.4% rebound rate and, most notably, a robust 30.7% assist rate. Those are all significant bumps from his regular production, resulting in 1.33 Yahoo fantasy points per minute. Add in the fast-paced Minnesota matchup on the other side, and every sign points towards Adebayo being one of the best options on the board.

One negative is that, according to Awesemo’s projections, he is already expected to be the second-most rostered center at 24.8%. But there is still a lot of news yet to shake out on this massive 10-game slate, so that number could be in flux as other, cheaper plays emerge. And regardless of what other value opens up, it won’t rival the Adebayo’s ceiling, as his rates with Butler off the floor rival that of a $50 player. So no matter what, prioritize him in NBA Yahoo Cup lineups this evening.

NBA DFS Pick No. 3: Alex Caruso — $10

The Lakers are in the midst of a free fall that could drop them down to the No. 7 seed with a loss in Portland tonight. Locking in a top-six seed is more important than it has ever been before, as the No. 7 seed is no longer a guaranteed playoff spot due to the creation of the play-in tournament. That creates some extreme importance to this game for both sides, as the Lakers and Trail Blazers are deadlocked with the exact same record in the Western Conference (39-27). And with LeBron James and Dennis Schroder out — plus Anthony Davis banged up in last night’s drumming versus the Clippers — the Lakers will need all the help they can get to beat out the Blazers in this one.

That is not to say Alex Caruso is going to win the game for them, but he’s nevertheless an intriguing option for fantasy tonight. Nothing about his rates is intriguing, as he’s only averaging around 0.80 Yahoo fantasy points per minute on the year. But similar to the Rockets reserves, he’s going to be forced into a boatload of minutes no matter what, which provides enough of a floor/ceiling combination to be viable on this slate. Should other, more intriguing minimum-salary options make themselves available, gamers can most likely live without Caruso. But as it stands right now, he is perhaps the best $10 play available on Yahoo.
