NBA Twitter reacts to Kenrich Williams’ extension
The Oklahoma City Thunder extended Kenrich Williams to a four-year, $27.2 million extension on Monday.
Williams has grown into a fan favorite player that also has fans inside the team. Williams’ teammates and coach constantly spoke glowingly about him throughout his first two seasons with the Thunder.
The reaction to Williams being locked up with the Thunder for the next five seasons was generally a positive one as he has proven to be an undrafted gem that signed a relatively cheap deal that is easy to move if needed to.
Let’s take a look at some of the best tweets that reacted to the Williams news.
ESPN Sources: Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kenrich Williams has agreed on a four-year, $27.2 million contract extension. The deal, negotiated by @PensackSports, comes for an undrafted player who had no Division I offers out of high school.

Regarding the Kenrich Williams extension: I’m told it’s three guaranteed years with a team option in the fourth year.

A year & a half ago, Kenrich Williams was fighting to make the Thunder roster at training camp.
Today, he signed a 27.2 million dollar extension. Amazing story. Dude deserves it so much. https://t.co/oG3QgKUHgC

OKC keeps Kenrich Williams around long term. He said he wants to retire here, OKC has bypassed trade offers for him, they get a long term deal done. Really happy for Kenny Hustle! https://t.co/FrFTfc4CAU

Under $7 million annually is a great deal for Kenrich Williams
Kenrich has always said this is where he wants to be. This is him planting his flag in OKC
When the Thunder are ready to compete, Kenrich is a piece of that puzzle. Great deal for the Thunder

Kenrich Williams was considered a throw-in on the Steven Adams trade.
Now Kenny Hustle looks to be a long term player for the next era of competitive Thunder basketball.
OKC also used the other big asset in the Adams deal, the 2023 Denver 1st, this summer to land Ousmane Dieng.

Thunder players under contract or restricted free agents in the next 4 years:
SGA, Dort, Chet, JDub, Dieng, Giddey, Mann, Kenrich Williams.Starting to look like a core. https://t.co/08kvmxcfkL

Whoa. Cool for Kenrich. Very curious why OKC seems to be extending all its mid-tier dudes. https://t.co/CIfRVTmflR

Kenrich Williams' deal (4yr/$27.2M) is actually ridiculous.
Most 3-and-D vets (Covington, Tucker, Danny Green) will make $10M+ next year.
Williams' deal is $6.8M/yr if on flat salary.
Royce O'Neale (4yr/$36M) was just dealt for a 1st.
Budget pieces go a long way in trades.

In the run-up to last year's trade deadline, I think it became clear that Kenrich's value to OKC was always going to be much higher than what he could return in a trade. Obviously, he's still on a very tradeable contract, but I'm hopeful he stays in OKC long-term.

Kenrich Williams worked his ass off. He deserves every bit of this contract extension. Happy for him.

Kenrich Williams was an undrafted free agent who got a second contract solely to match salary in the Steven Adams trade between OKC and NOLA.
Now he will earn $28M in 4 years.
Awesome, awesome story.

Kenrich, Lu, and even Mike’s contracts were both beneficial to each party. Really like the cooperation between OKC and players/agents have had recently

That’s incredible value for Kenrich, and will look even more attractive with the new CBA/TV revenue deal. Also is great for Kenrich to get a long term deal.

Kenny Hustle has said publicly that he wants to retire in Oklahoma City.
Williams puts his money where his mouth is – this is a fantastic deal for the Thunder. https://t.co/itNUkjO9XV
