Dec. 1 has emerged as the likely first day for NBA training camps if league's plan to set Dec. 22 as opening night of the 2020-21 season is approved by the union, The New York Times' Marc Stein reported late Monday night.

League play was originally thought to begin on Christmas day SNY's Ian Begley confirmed, but it seems that plans are still being figured out with about two months to go till the expected start.

Per Begley, several members of both the league and teams would like to see the earlier start date happen. They would like a season with as many games as possible, while the thought of the season being pushed back to get more fans in the arenas has lost some momentum.
