NBA Summer League schedule set, Patrick Williams to play originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Mark your calendars, Bulls fans.
On Wednesday, the NBA announced that Summer League will return this offseason after being cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The dates: Aug. 8-17, 2021. The spot: MGM Resorts in Las Vegas.
And expect Bulls forward Patrick Williams to be in attendance.
"This offseason is going to be big for me personally now that I kind of know what to expect from the NBA," Williams said at his end-of-season presser on Monday. "This is my first season so everything was pretty much new. Now that I have the gist of what the NBA is about, to have that in my mind and that experience going into the summer, is going to be huge for me and for this team.
"I will be playing Summer League. I will be there just to have that experience. Last year, I didn’t get a chance to play in Summer League, so I think this will be a really good experience for me. I’m excited about it. This summer is going to be huge for me and this organization."
When Williams suits up for the showcase as a second-year, he'll still be just 19 years old (his 20th birthday is on Aug. 26). But with a full offseason ahead — a privilege he wasn't afforded before his first year — the Bulls will be hoping he doesn't look his age.
Whether Williams is joined by a 2021 first-round pick in the team's contingent remains to be seen. If the Bulls' selection lands in the top four of June's draft lottery, they retain the pick; if not, it goes to the Orlando Magic as part of the Nikola Vučević trade.
The Bulls also have a second-round choice in the upcoming draft, which they have the right to swap with the New Orleans Pelicans' pick if theirs is less advantageous.
