The Sixers will host the current favorites for next season’s NBA title on Oct. 22.

The NBA on Tuesday released its opening-week national television schedule, as well as its Christmas Day slate. The Sixers feature once with a matchup against the Nets

The full schedule for each team is expected to come out Friday, Marc Stein reported

Unlike last year, the NBA s planning to play an 82-game season and not release its schedule in two parts. For the 2020-21 campaign, the league scheduled 72 games for each team and put out a second-half schedule during the middle of the season to account for the possibility of postponed games during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brooklyn projects to be a formidable opponent. The Nets will return much of the team that lost to the eventual champion Bucks the Eastern Conference semifinals, including James Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Among their notable additions this offseason are veteran Patty Mills, backup point guard Jevon Carter and forward James Johnson.

The Sixers went 2-1 last year against Brooklyn, although all three games were heavily impacted by shorthanded rosters. Though the Sixers earned the Eastern Conference's No. 1 seed, they fell to the Hawks in the second round of the playoffs.
