Report: LaMelo scheduled to interview with Warriors next week originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

There are plenty of NBA draft analysts who believe LaMelo Ball is the top prospect in this year's class. So it's not a surprise to see the 6-foot-6 guard at No. 1 in various mock drafts.

Furthermore, various pundits say the Warriors should select Ball with the second overall pick if he still is on the board.

Well, Golden State is doing its due diligence and is tentatively scheduled to interview the 19-year-old early next week, according to ESPN's Jonathan Givony. The presumption is the meeting will be in-person.

Ball in mid-October told ESPN's "Jalen & Jacoby" that he has already had "a little Zoom call" with the Warriors at some point in the pre-draft process.

The Southern California native played in Australia last season, appearing in 13 games for the Illawarra hawks before a foot injury ended his season.

Ball averaged 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.5 steals, while shooting 39 percent overall and 28 percent from 3-point territory.

"You talk about high basketball IQ, somebody that's marketable, somebody that has a big upside," former Warriors forward Dorell Wright said last week on the "WarriorsWorld" podcast. "A lot of people are gonna be surprised.

"The best thing about him is he's always played with guys better than him. Most guys don't get that opportunity. You usually dominate all high school and you're always the best player (since) middle school.

"Even when he went to Australia, he was playing with guys a little bit better than him -- a little more mature. So I think he fits in perfect with a team like the Warriors, who provide shooting (and) playmaking.

"He can play with the ball (or) without the ball. He definitely fits. He just has to buy in on the defensive end."

Ball reportedly met with the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this week, and ESPN's Givony has the T-Wolves choosing him with the No. 1 overall pick.
