The Philadelphia 76ers traded up to draft Markelle Fultz out of Washington with the top pick in the 2017 NBA draft. Less that two years later, the Sixers have given up on the point guard by dealing him away to the Orlando Magic on Thursday.
Fultz was never able to stay on the court consistently for Philly due to ongoing injury issues and major problems with his jump shot. But he’s definitely not the first No. 1 NBA pick to fall well short of expectations. Recent history tells us the top pick is anything but a sure thing in this league.
