Nets' Kevin Durant leaves game, ruled out after suffering thigh injury vs. Heat in first quarter

Kevin Durant has been ruled out of the rest of Sunday afternoon's game against the Miami Heat after suffering a left thigh contusion, the Brooklyn Nets announced.

Durant slowly left the bench area for the locker room during the first quarter. His left thigh appeared to slam into Miami's Trevor Ariza on a drive to the basket.

He was examined by a trainer on the sideline before heading to the locker room.

After Miami's 109-107 win, Nets head coach Steve Nash was unsure of Durant's status moving forward.

"He’s sore, but we don’t know how severe," Nash told reporters. "We’ll see tomorrow how he wakes up and go from there. But right now nothing’s been determined.”

It was his fifth game back with the Nets since returning from a hamstring injury earlier this month. After missing three games in January because of a COVID-19 exposure, the Nets announced he would miss time with a hamstring strain.

Durant, 32, missed 23 games and returned to score 17 points on April 8 against the New Orleans Pelicans. The 11-time All-Star is averaging 28.1 points on 53.9 percent shooting, 7.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists over 23 games, 21 of which he's started. He was in the starting lineup on Sunday.
