NBA fines Sixers $100K for violating league injury reporting rules

The Philadelphia 76ers were able to welcome big man Joel Embiid back to the floor in an April 2 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The reigning league MVP had not played since Jan. 30 due to a meniscus injury in his left knee that needed a procedure done on it.

While Embiid’s return is obviously the most important thing for the Sixers, the NBA still fined the team for the way he was listed on the injury report ahead of the game.

The Sixers listed Embiid as out before he was upgraded to questionable shortly before the game and then was ruled available to play. The NBA stepped in and fined the Sixers $100K for violating the league’s injury reporting rules.

The Sixers will pay the price for the mistake, but on the flip side, paying $100K and having Embiid back on the floor is a price worth paying to have their superstar back.
