Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant went down in the second quarter of their 106-105 win against the Toronto Raptors in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night, suffering a season-ending Achilles injury.

The news from Durant’s first game back after initially injuring his right calf a month ago seemingly didn’t sit well with anybody. Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Meyers even had to hold back tears as he made the announcement after the game.

Many of the Warriors’ players were shook up after the game.

“I just feel so bad for him, to be honest,” Steph Curry said, adding that it’s going to be a challenge to “recalibrate” for Game 6. “Nobody should have to go through something like that, especially with this stage that we have.”

Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins didn’t hold back when he was asked about Durant’s critics, either.

Klay Thompson then gave an emotional response when asked about those who think that the Warriors are actually a better team without Durant on the floor.

Those claims, he said, are “just stupid.”

Fans flock to social media

Sports fans and athletes flocked to social media after the news broke, too, sharing a vast array of emotions from sadness to frustration to anger that Durant was even allowed to play in the first place.

The Warriors now trail the Raptors 3-2 in the NBA Finals. They will host Game 6 of the series on Thursday night at Oracle Arena.
