NBA Finals: Golden State Warriors Beat the Cleveland Cavaliers – Again

The Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers were the last two teams standing in the NBA Finals for the third year in a row, but the basketball three-peat was anything but boring.

After it had looked like the Warriors were going to sweep the Cavaliers with ease, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant’s team finally shutdown LeBron James and co. on Monday night in a thrilling Game 5.

With a final score of 129-120, it was raining blue and gold confetti when James walked quietly off the court in the midst of the celebrations as “We Are the Champions” by Queen blasted out.

Unlike in 2015 when they sealed the deal while playing on the road in Cleveland, the Warriors took home the NBA Championship on their home court in Oakland, California.

Durant scored a very impressive 39 points — 11 of them in the close fourth quarter — and Curry scored a not-too-shabby 34 points.

This marks the second championship for the Warriors in three years after the Cavs took the 2016 title.

It is the first championship for Durant, however, following his high-profile move from the Oklahoma City Thunder to Golden State in the off-season with the sole purpose of getting his first ring. The 28-year-old earned himself plenty of haters when he left the Thunder last July, but on Monday he earned himself the NBA Finals MVP award for the decision.

The NBA Finals aired on ABC.
