Warriors now at -400 to win NBA Finals after Game 5 victory
Oddsmakers really like the Warriors’ chances of winning one more game in the NBA Finals.
Golden State moved to -400 at BetMGM to win the NBA title after taking a 3-2 lead on the Boston Celtics on Monday night. The Warriors won Game 5 by a score of 104-94 despite Stephen Curry’s inability to make a three. Curry was 0-of-9 from 3-point range and broke a 233-game streak of at least one made three.
Andrew Wiggins was 12-of-23 from the field for the Warriors — and was 0-of-6 from three himself — and had 26 points. The Warriors also got 29 combined points off the bench from Gary Payton II and Jordan Poole while Klay Thompson had 21 points.
The Celtics turned the ball over 18 times to continue their pattern. The three games where Boston has turned the ball over the most these Finals have been the three games the Warriors have won.
Boston is +310 to win the Finals ahead of Game 6 at home on Thursday night. Boston needs to get that game at home and then win Game 7 on the road on Sunday night to get the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
The Warriors are +135 to win Thursday’s Game 6 straight up and win the series 4-2. If you think the series is going seven games and the Warriors will win on Sunday night, you can get a Warriors win in seven at +140.
The Warriors’ extremely short odds to take the series also mean that Curry has very short odds to win Finals MVP. Curry opened as the pre-Finals favorite for MVP and he’s now -350 to win the award despite his off night in Game 5. The only other player with decent odds to win Finals MVP is the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum. He’s at +375 to win the MVP award, but a bet for Tatum is also a bet that the Celtics will win the last two games.
Wiggins is the No. 3 favorite for Finals MVP at +1800 while the Celtics Jaylen Brown is at +2500.
