Report: Celtics trying to trade up for top-three draft pick originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Danny Ainge apparently is still working the phones hours before the 2020 NBA Draft.

The Celtics are "searching for trade pathways" to move up to a top-3 pick in Wednesday's draft, The New York Times' Marc Stein reported Wednesday.

Boston owns three first-round picks (No. 14, No. 26 and No. 30), and we've heard plenty of chatter about the team trying to package those picks to land a lottery selection.

We've yet to hear of the Celtics coveting this high of a draft pick, however. The C's previously have been tied to prospects like Onyeka Okongwu and Isaac Okoro, both of whom likely won't go in the top five.

A trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors or Charlotte Hornets likely would require the Celtics to give up at least one player in addition to a handful of draft assets.

But Stein's report suggests the Celtics are interested in a top prospect like James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball -- or they have bigger plans in mind and would look to trade that top-3 pick in a blockbuster deal.
