NBA draft analyst believes Warriors trade down, Ball goes No. 2 originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
The Warriors possess the rights to the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and they are going to explore all options with the selection.
One route they could take is trading down, which would enable them to pick a prospect later in the lottery, while also acquiring a veteran role player and/or a future draft asset.
"I'd bet on another team picking at No. 2 and trading up for (LaMelo) Ball," Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman wrote in his latest mock draft.
It's possible the 19-year-old is not even on the board at that point, as several draft analysts have the T-Wolves taking Ball at No. 1 overall.
But if he is available, Golden State's president of basketball operations Bob Myers would have some leverage if another franchise really wants Ball.
Then again, "knowing there could be more interest and time to deal after the draft, the Warriors could take Ball and shop him later," Wasserman opined.
Also, Warriors fans should not completely dismiss the idea of the Dubs legitimately wanting to add Ball to the roster. After all, there is a reason he is projected to be a top-three pick.
Unfortunately, all of the speculation is going to continue for an even greater amount of time, as a new draft date of Nov. 18 reportedly could be finalized soon.
So "mock draft season" only is beginning.
