NBA announces key date for 2021 draft, combine, lottery originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Monday afternoon, the NBA announced that its 2021 draft will take place on July 29.
It also released some key dates for the run-up to draft night itself:
May 30, 2021: Early entry application deadline (10:59 p.m. CT)
June 21 - June 27, 2021: NBA Draft Combine, which ESPN will broadcast. The telecast will include footage of five-on-five games and strength and agility testing.
June 22, 2021: NBA Draft Lottery (7:30 p.m. CT), which ESPN will broadcast.
July 19, 2021: Withdrawal deadline (4 p.m. CT)
July 29: NBA Draft (7 p.m. CT), which ESPN will broadcast.
The last day that the 2020-21 season can end -- with a potential Game 7 of the NBA Finals -- is July 22. The rescheduled Tokyo Olympics begin on July 23.
Unless the Bulls crater into the top four of the lottery, they owe their 2021 first-round draft choice to the Orlando Magic as part of the Nikola Vučević trade.
As part of the February 2018 Nikola Mirotić trade, the Bulls own the right to swap 2021 second-round picks with the New Orleans Pelicans if the latter's selection is more favorable. As of this writing, the Pelicans (20-25) would own the 40th overall pick with the Bulls (19-25) picking 39th, negating a potential swap.
The NBA left the locations of the draft, combine and lottery, and other particulars, open-ended for now, saying details are yet to be finalized.
