POINT GUARD

Payton PritchardBoston Celtics (at Minnesota) - DK: $3,800 / FD: $3,900 / Yahoo: $10

Pritchard should get plenty of work with Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart out tonight. The matchup for the Celtics is a dream all-around, as Minnesota ranks third in overall fantasy points allowed (sixth to PG) and plays at the third-fastest pace in the league. Boston’s motivation is unclear as they’re basically locked into the 7-seed in the play-in tournament, but rookie Pritchard will be giving it his all as he has every time he’s been given an opportunity. He’s coming off a nice effort Thursday night with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal vs. the Cavs (32 fantasy points).

Also Consider: Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, T.J. McConnell, Jrue Holiday (Yahoo)

Bargain Options: Patty Mills

SHOOTING GUARD

Devin BookerPhoenix Suns (at San Antonio) - DK: $8,500 / FD: $7,300 / Yahoo: $30

The Suns game is one that matters today, as they are competing with Utah for the one-seed and a chance to avoid (probably) the Lakers in Round 1. I like Chris Paul as well, but Booker gets the better matchup at SG, and if the game gets out of hand, Paul will probably play fewer minutes than Booker. It’s worth noting that neither Sun has great numbers in the only other matchup with the Spurs, which was a huge loss for the Suns, but I’m not reading too much into one game. Booker’s FanDuel salary really stands out as a great value today.

Also Consider: James Harden, Terry Rozier

Bargain Options: Talen Horton-Tucker, Alec Burks, Aaron Nesmith

SMALL FORWARD

RJ Barrett – NY Knicks (vs. Charlotte) - DK: $6,700 / FD: $6,600 / Yahoo: $24

I can justify a lot of SF plays today, and think this is one slot that will create some variance on a relatively small slate. New York and Charlotte should be motivated by seeding interests today, but advantage Knicks. Vegas has them as six-point home favorites this afternoon, which makes sense as Charlotte ranks 19th in defensive efficiency and for our purposes, gives up the ninth-most fantasy points overall. They are particularly susceptible to opposing forwards, ranking first to SF and second to PF. Both Barrett and Julius Randle are making it into as many lineups as I can muster. Barrett has certainly had some ups and downs, but he’s playing close to 40 MPG lately, and should come through in this plus matchup.

Also Consider: Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Evan Fournier, Jimmy Butler (Yahoo)

Bargain Options: Oshae Brissett, Kyle Kuzma

POWER FORWARD

Thaddeus Young – Chicago Bulls (at Brooklyn) - DK: $5,600 / FD: $5,000 / Yahoo: $18 (C)

As noted above, I have no issue spending up on Randle if you can afford it – he’s a stud. Jayson Tatum is listed as probable tonight, but the Celtics don’t have much motivation to push him to the limit you’ll need for his salary to pay off. I’m therefore very comfortable saving a bit with Young. Chicago’s playoff hopes are over, but Young is the kind of player that isn’t going to quit on his team, and with Daniel Theis out, he should have ample opportunity to play this out to our advantage. He came through Thursday with a full stat sheet (10 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists) vs. Toronto, and Brooklyn, though huge favorites in this game, isn’t a defensive juggernaut in any sense. Young should return his usual 30-ish fantasy points tonight.

Also Consider: Julius Randle

Bargain Options: Nicolas Claxton, JaKarr Sampson, Markieff Morris, Jae Crowder

CENTER

Karl-Anthony Towns – Minnesota Timberwolves (vs. Boston) - DK: $10,100 / FD: $9,700 / Yahoo: $45

Center is tricky tonight, if you’re factoring in motivation. Minnesota doesn’t have any, but Towns is a competitor and I don’t think he’s going to play soft against the Celtics. Towns has made four three-pointers in each of his last two games, and is coming off a nice double-double vs. Denver. Previously vs. Boston, he put up a monster 30/12 double-double with seven assists. He’s a formidable matchup for whomever Boston ends up rolling out in the frontcourt tonight.

Also Consider: Nikola Vucevic

Bargain Options: Andre Drummond, Nicolas Claxton

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Nicolas Claxton (PF/C – BKN) is one of my favorite cheap plays tonight, and I hope we continue to see him in the playoffs. He’s played 23 minutes with the second unit in the last two games, scoring 10 and 18 points with ample rebounds and two blocks per game. For near minimum price, I expect more of the same kind of return (about 9-10X) in this favorable matchup with the Bulls.

Jae Crowder (PF – PHX) is another very affordable F option tonight, given the questionable status of Deandre Ayton. Crowder has started the last couple games for the Suns, doing a little bit of everything, including making 6-of-10 threes vs. the Warriors earlier in the week. His defense is going to ensure him plenty of minutes, and when he’s hot from the field, he can really exceed value. I consider him a high floor with upside play suitable for any lineups tonight.

JaKarr Sampson (PF/C – IND) is someone to consider if you’re really desperate for a couple hundred dollars’ savings on DraftKings. He’s certainly not without risk, but significantly upped his playing time and production in his second game back from a concussion, notching 14 points and five rebounds for 20 fantasy points. The Pacers are still lacking a lot of healthy bodies, so if Domantas Sabonis is out again today, I think you can feel pretty decent about a modest return on value from Sampson.
