POINT GUARD

Russell Westbrook – Washington (vs. Detroit) - DK: $11,000 / FD: $11,000 / Yahoo: $51

Usually a nine-game slate is a sweet spot but this one is not falling into place as easily as I had hoped. We can expect many players on new teams to make their debuts, and there are plenty of situations I want to see before I invest in them. Therefore, most of these plays will feature players I have total confidence in reaching value. Westbrook is the most expensive guard on the slate by a pretty wide margin, but he’s also in the best spot to succeed. It’s a fine matchup with the Pistons, Bradley Beal is questionable, and the Wizards are favorites at home in one of the higher scoring games on the slate. There are plenty of bargain options to pair him with to make this work on every site.

Also Consider: De’Aaron Fox, Dejounte Murray

Bargain Options: Immanuel Quickley, Theo Maledon/Ty Jerome, Eric Bledsoe, Jaylen Nowell, Sam Merrill

SHOOTING GUARD

Donovan Mitchell – Utah (vs. Memphis) - DK: $9,000 / FD: $8,500 / Yahoo: $38

Mitchell continues to be one of the most dependable DFS plays at any position. He’s coming off a nice effort vs. these Grizzlies last night, a game in which Mitchell scored 35 real points. The Jazz are big favorites again tonight, but last night’s game was decided by a mere three points and the implied team total for the Jazz is the best of the bunch. He’s the best value on FanDuel, but you can fit him pretty easily on all three main sites.

Also Consider: Paul George

Bargain Options: Marcus Smart, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Sterling Brown, Ben McLemore,

SMALL FORWARD

Luguentz Dort – Oklahoma City (vs. Boston) - DK: $5,500 / FD: $5,200 / Yahoo: $15

Dort has played at least 30 minutes in each of the last two games he’s been active for, and returned 35 and 37 fantasy points. For his salary, I’m thrilled with that level of production, and there is literally no one to stand in his way on this depleted Thunder roster. Boston isn’t a great matchup on paper, but here I’m siding with opportunity and price and locking Dort in. He’s getting paired with another cheap option for me on FanDuel, but I don’t really have a strong argument against one of the higher/mid-range salary plays if you have the extra cap for it.

Also Consider: Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, Khris Middleton, RJ Barrett

Bargain Options: Danny Green, Rui Hachimura, Malik Beasley, Sadiq Bey

POWER FORWARD

Jerami Grant – Detroit (at Washington) - DK: $7,600 / FD: $7,300 / Yahoo: $29

Of course I like Westbrook, but this is a really good matchup for the Pistons too. Washington is the fastest-paced team in the league, giving up the most overall fantasy points to opponents, and ranking just 27th in defensive efficiency. Grant is the most stable option on the team, and should continue to dominate his team’s scoring. It’s also worth noting that he’s blocked five shots in the last two games, which is a nice boost to his fantasy line.

Also Consider: Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Zion Williamson

Bargain Options: Jae’Sean Tate, Maxi Kleber (if Kristaps Porzingis is out)

CENTER

Jarrett Allen – Cleveland (at Sacramento) - DK: $7,700 / FD: $6,900 / Yahoo: $29

Cleveland isn’t the most exciting team to draw from, and they are pretty big road underdogs in California tonight. However, Sacramento ranks dead last in defensive efficiency, gives up the third-most overall fantasy points (sixth-most to centers), and plays at a much faster pace than the Cavs. Allen had an off night when these teams met last week, but otherwise has three double-doubles in his last five games, and is coming off a very complete effort in LA. His FanDuel salary is especially nice, and I can come up with arguments against paying up for Rudy Gobert, Jonas Valanciunas and Nikola Vucevic tonight.

With Jarrett Allen ruled out, I'm mostly pivoting to Richaun Holmes - DK: $7500, FD: $8200, Yahoo: $31 or Robert Williams - DK: $6600, FD: $5600, Yahoo: $22, which allows me to upgrade elsewhere.

Also Consider: Karl-Anthony Towns

Bargain Options: Ivica Zubac, Al Horford

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Nickeil Alexander-Walker (G – NOP) is basically still the same price he was before last night’s game, in which he posted another 35-plus fantasy point game with a very full stat sheet (including two each blocks and steals). This game carries the highest over/under of the night (228.5 points), with just a one-point spread. With Lonzo Ball questionable at best, there is no reason to fade NAW tonight.

Sterling Brown (G – HOU) has been holding down the backcourt in Houston, playing at least 28 minutes in each of the last three games, and he double-doubled in two of them. The path to continued playing time is pretty clear with Victor Oladipo out of the picture and John Wall occasionally resting on back-to-backs, but Kevin Porter Jr. could be back tonight, so keep an eye on the Rockets updates throughout the day.

Maxi Kleber (F – DAL) is a great option to save some serious salary dollars if Porzingis rests on the back-to-back tonight. New Orleans is a great fantasy matchup overall, better for guards, but still ninth overall for fantasy and 28th in defensive efficiency. This should be a close and high scoring game, as noted above. Since the All-Star Break, Kleber has produced around 20 fantasy points per game, with a stable floor and upside to about 30 fantasy points. He probably isn’t winning anyone a GPP, but could be a safe cash game play for the price.
