POINT GUARD

Ja Morant – Memphis (vs. San Antonio) - DK: $9,600 / FD: $9,300 / Yahoo: $40

It’s easy to love rostering Morant when he consistently comes through with the big games. He posted a monster double-double against the Lakers Wednesday night after scoring 33 points in Phoenix the game before. His ability to fill the stat sheet makes him my top PG play, and when you factor in that he’s cheaper than Westbrook or Young, it’s even easier.

Also Consider: Derrick White, Damian Lillard, Russell Westbrook, Kemba Walker, Jalen Green

SHOOTING GUARD

Jordan Clarkson – Utah (vs. Minnesota) - DK: $6,300 / FD: $6,500 / Yahoo: $18

Mike Conley will be resting tonight, so even with Mitchell back in action for the Jazz, Clarkson should retain value. Whenever he gets the chance for higher usage, I’m usually on him as a high-floor, modest upside play for the price. Tonight he’ll get a matchup boost, as the Timberwolves give up the ninth-most overall fantasy points, fifth-most to shooting guards, despite their Top 10 defensive rating. The Jazz are big favorites, but this should be a high scoring and fast-paced game, which always helps shooters.

Also Consider: Tyler Herro, Donovan Mitchell, Aaron Wiggins, Desmond Bane, Lou Williams

SMALL FORWARD

LeBron James – LA Lakers (vs. Portland) - DK: $12,000 / FD: $11,200 / Yahoo: $53

What can I say about James. You can afford him, even with a couple other stars in the lineup tonight, so you do it. He’s on another level right now, and fading him feels like a risk, even on a bigger slate. The Trail Blazers rank 29th in defensive rating, and give up the most fantasy points to the small forward position. Of course, LeBron plays everywhere and does everything regardless of opponent, so that’s just a small bonus consideration.

Also Consider: Evan Fournier (if healthy), Caleb Martin, Malik Beasley, Kevin Porter, RJ Barrett

POWER FORWARD

Larry Nance – Portland (at LA Lakers) - DK: $6,100 / FD: $6,100 / Yahoo: $18

Targeting that same game at a lower price point, Nance has been playing 30-plus MPG for some time now, and while his numbers aren’t super-efficient, he has a three 30-plus fantasy point efforts in the last four Trail Blazers’ games. The Lakers are definitely a better guard matchup, but this game should be fairly close and high-scoring, making Nance a high-floor play for the price.

Also Consider: Evan Mobley, Pascal Siakam, Jaren Jackson, Devin Vassell

CENTER

Rudy Gobert – Utah (vs. Minnesota) - DK: $9,500 / FD: $9,100 / Yahoo: $39

Trusty Gobert rounds out the Top 5 tonight, in one of the best center matchups in the league, and Karl-Anthony Towns won’t be playing tonight. He’s pretty much going to double-double every single time he hits the court healthy and it could be a big one against a Minnesota team than ranks just 27th in rebounding rate. I’d take some chances on a cheaper option in tournaments, but Gobert is the safest cash game play.

Also Consider: Omer Yurtseven, Clint Capela, Michell Robinson or Steven Adams (tournaments only)

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Derrick White (PG – SAS) is getting some extra usage with Dejounte Murray in the protocols this week. The Spurs haven’t played since Monday, but White has two 20-plus point games in the last three games, with a big dud in the blowout win over Detroit in the middle. Tonight’s game should be competitive and fast-faced with both teams presenting pretty fantasy-friendly environments. White is a player I would love to fit into all my lineups, but it requires some compromise from the strategy I like above.

Tyler Herro (G – MIA) If the game gets played tonight, Herro should be in line for a huge role in a superb matchup. Houston is bad at everything defensively, ranking 30th in defensive rating, giving up the most fantasy points per game, turning the ball over at the league’s highest rate, and playing fast – fourth in pace. Herro has had some ups and downs, and doesn’t fit into the build I outlined above, but if you come down at PG and C, he’s a nice tournament play.

Toronto Raptors should get several players back from the COVID list tonight, including Fred VanVleet, Scottie Barnes and OG Anunoby. Pascal Siakam was terrific in his first game back (Tuesday), but not all players are coming back from the virus. I’m using caution with the more expensive Raptors, and avoiding the value players who were soaking up extra minutes and usage with the stars out. The Clippers rank fourth in defensive rating and don’t offer any super-enticing DvP, and this game carries one of the lower point totals of the night. There’s a possibility for a nice ROI in tournaments with VanVleet or Barnes, but I feel like it’s more risk than reward given other options.
