NBA DFS Picks: Fantasy Basketball Building Blocks Today | Monday, April 25

Yahoo Play of the Day — Jayson Tatum: Boston Celtics at Brooklyn Nets

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 48.64 | DraftKings: 50.87

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 29.8% | FanDuel 24.9% | DraftKings 31.6%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $44 | FanDuel $10,300 | DraftKings $9,500

Boston has a chance for a sweep tonight if it can knock off the Nets once again in Brooklyn. Jayson Tatum has managed to outplay Kevin Durant at every turn, and he authored a masterpiece on Saturday, leading the Celtics to a 109-103 victory. The game was not as close as the score indicates, as the Nets ceded the lead for the final time midway through the first quarter. Tatum laid down a monster performance on the strength of six steals, which pushed him to 66 Yahoo Fantasy points. In the five preceding games the 23-year-old forward had six total steals, so do not even think for a second that this is a repeatable outcome.

Tatum should be on the court for around 40 minutes on Monday, and that will give him ample opportunity to reach the 50-fantasy-point plateau. Small forward is running a little thin with the three-game player pool, with Bruce Brown ($25), O.G. Anunoby ($23) and Bojan Bogdanovic ($19) the only other options with a legitimate chance to produce 30 or more fantasy points. This is a big factor in anointing Tatum as the Yahoo Play of the Day.

Luka Doncic: Dallas Mavericks vs. Utah Jazz

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 53.07 | DraftKings: 57.3

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 10.2% | FanDuel 28.9% | DraftKings 21.3%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $55 | FanDuel $10,400 | DraftKings $10,600

Somehow, Dallas won two games without Luka Doncic before losing a heartbreaker Saturday in Utah when Rudy Gobert converted an alley-oop from Donovan Mitchell with 11 seconds remaining in the game. Doncic looked a little out of sorts in the early going, having missed nearly two weeks with a calf injury, but he finished strong with 50 Yahoo Fantasy points in 34 minutes of action. That is a reasonable baseline expectation again tonight with the series returning to Texas knotted at two games apiece. Durant has been in a funk and Joel Embiid is dealing with torn ligaments in his shooting hand, so Doncic looks like the best bet among the top-shelf options on Monday.

Centers of Attention

Pascal Siakam looks like the best center option on the board, and it is not particularly close. On Saturday he played nearly 44 minutes as the Raptors were able to stave off elimination despite losing Fred VanVleet (hip) in the first half. Regardless of VanVleet’s availability, Siakam is going to have to have another mega-performance if Toronto wants to keep the series alive.

Embiid is a question mark, as he was clearly struggling in the first half on Saturday, but he has said he plans on playing through the injury since it is a pain-management issue at this point and something that will require offseason surgery. There is no salary discount for Embiid, who had an MVP-caliber season, and this seems like a risky play with for his apex salary. Of course, this decision is all about risk tolerance, and if gamers are shying away, then that could be the time to roll the dice on the face of the Philadelphia franchise.

Rudy Gobert has yet to surpass 35 fantasy points in this series despite averaging 33.5 minutes through four games. Yes, at some point he will pop off for a big game, but the inconsistent offensive involvement has his backers relying on him corralling at least 15 rebounds and making all of his standard five or six field goal attempts. Caveat Emptor!

Robert Williams looked good on Saturday after missing nearly a month with a torn meniscus in his left knee. Word around the campfire is that the Celtics will be comfortable adding to his 15.5 minutes that he played in his return, but there is absolutely NO reason for them to push him, as they are up 3-0 in this series and more off days are about to come to fruition.

Yahoo Discount Dandies

Reggie Bullock – Dallas Mavericks vs. Utah Jazz ($14): So far this series has seen Reggie Bullock as an ironman with at least 44 minutes in each of the four games. The Mavs need his long-range marksmanship along with his defense and rebounding, and he has been delivering nicely. While he is unlikely to reach 30 fantasy points, we can certainly pencil him in for around 20 to 25, which is worth it to fill out the small forward position on budget.

Royce O’Neale – Utah Jazz at Dallas Mavericks ($10): Though he is never exciting, Royce O’Neale should see mid- to upper-30s for minutes once again tonight, as the Jazz value his defense. Ideally, a few rebounds bounce his way and he can splash a couple of 3-point shots. It would be hard to recommend him if he were actually more than the Yahoo minimum salary.

Danny Green – Philadelphia 76ers vs. Toronto Raptors ($10): Now that this series is back in the U.S., Matisse Thybulle ($10) will be available to play. Danny Green should remain in the starting lineup, though he is unlikely to see more than 30 minutes of action unless his shot is finding the bottom of the net.

Final Thoughts on NBA DFS Picks for the Monday, April 25 Fantasy Basketball Slate

The only injury news that is pending is the availability of Fred VanVleet in what is a potential elimination game for Toronto as they return to Philadelphia for Game 5 of their series. Once again, expect key players to see 40 minutes on the court as the first-round series are coming to a close.
