NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks, Friday, March 26th

Yahoo Play of the Day – Trae Young: Atlanta Hawks at Golden State Warriors

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 40.97 | DraftKings: 44.05

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 8.2% | FanDuel 10.7% | DraftKings 4.7%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $39 | FanDuel $8,700 | DraftKings $9,100

This is the fourth game of Atlanta’s eight-game road trip, which is taking place on the West Coast, with the exception of the final game in New Orleans. The first four games have all been against California teams, with time off between each matchup. Golden State was hammered last night 141-119 in Sacramento, but they should at least have Draymond Green back tonight. Atlanta is favored by half a dozen points, and the Warriors have been in the bottom third of the league with regards to defensive efficiency for most of the season.

Trae Young has a very favorable salary on Yahoo when considering his combination of a safe floor and attainable upside. Though it has been eight games since he last topped 50 Yahoo fantasy points, he did surpass 40 in five of those, with a 39.7 average.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Boston Celtics

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 54.95 | DraftKings: 56.68

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 16.4% | FanDuel 22.1% | DraftKings 17.0%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $56 | FanDuel $11,100 | DraftKings $10,700

After the trade deadline there are always plenty of NBA DFS value picks for a couple of days. This is partly because the DFS salary algorithms tend to be slow to catch up, and also because it may take 48 to 72 hours for all of the players involved in a trade to clear their physicals. Boston is looking a little top heavy tonight after shipping out Daniel Theis and Jeff Teague. Semi Ojeleye is out with a strain to his midsection, and Tristan Thompson is still in the health and safety protocol.

This is a very winnable game for the Bucks, who are favored at home by half a dozen games. The Bucks have won 13 of their last 14 and are now just two games behind the 76ers for the best record in the Eastern Conference. Giannis Antetokounmpo has played in all but one of these games during this stretch. In these outings he is averaging 35.1 minutes and 18.9 field-goal attempts. He has been sublime with 30 points, 12 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.4 combined blocks/steals for nearly 60 fantasy points per appearance.

Bam Adebayo: Miami Heat at Charlotte Hornets

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 50.95 | DraftKings: 52.28

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 44.2% | FanDuel 29.3% | DraftKings 32.5%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $34 | FanDuel $8,000 | DraftKings $8,200

Once again Goran Dragic is out with a back issue, and recent acquisitions Victor Oladipo, Brad Wanamaker and Nemanja Bjelica are unlikely to be available, pending the official completion of their trades. Jimmy Butler was out last night with a stomach illness and is currently questionable. While this matchup is not quite as good as last night’s against Portland, Bam Adebayo should be a priority play in all formats.

Looking at NBA WOWY, we can see that with or without Dragic on the court, Adebayo is averaging 1.25 Yahoo fantasy points per minute, though he does see a bump in his assist rate without Dragic. When Butler is off the court, Adebayo sees an increase to 1.32 Yahoo fantasy points per minute. Regardless of Butler’s status, the Awesemo expert projections are saying we should look to Adebayo for the second night in a row.

Good Value

Kendrick Nunn: Miami Heat at Charlotte Hornets

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 31.14 | DraftKings: 32.32

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 23.6% | FanDuel 12.0% | DraftKings 34.0%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $14 | FanDuel $5,500 | DraftKings $4,900

The absence of Dragic also directly impacts Kendrick Nunn. In the 14 games that Nunn has started with Dragic out this season, he is averaging 34.1 minutes, 16.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 combined blocks/steals for 28.3 Yahoo fantasy points. Keep in mind that while they were not all part of the Miami rotation, Kelly Olynyk, Avery Bradley, Maurice Harkless and Chris Silva were dealt away in trades over the last 48 hours. Precious Achiuwa, Gabe Vincent and Trevor Ariza will be the immediate beneficiaries of these extra minutes until their new teammates are cleared to take the court.

Risky Value

Orlando Magic vs. Portland Trail Blazers

My condolences to Magic fans in what has become a complete teardown season. Starters Nikola Vucevic (to Chicago), Evan Fournier (to Boston), Aaron Gordon (to Denver) and Al-Farouq Aminu (to Chicago) were all traded yesterday. Reserve Gary Clark (to Denver) was also dealt. Jonathan Isaac is missing the entire season with a torn ACL, Markelle Fultz tore his ACL in early January, and tonight will mark the 20th missed game for rookie Cole Anthony, who is not close to a return from his rib injuries. Finally, Terrence Ross has missed seven of the last eight games with a knee issue.

Tonight the Magic understudies will be taking the main stage against the Trail Blazers, who are double-digit road favorites while on a back-to-back. While Portland has the worst defensive efficiency in the league over its last 10 games — allowing 122 points per 100 possessions — Orlando may not be able to put a functional offense on the court. Among the remaining players, only Michael Carter-Williams and Chasson Randle have cracked the starting lineup over the last five games, having split the starts at point guard. Dwayne Bacon and James Ennis have been in the starting lineup at various points in the season, mostly when Gordon and Fournier were out for their extended absences.

If Ross is out again, that will leave Carter-Williams, Ennis, Bacon, Chuma Okeke and Mo Bamba as the likely starters, with Randle and Khem Birch being the first off the bench. DraftKings is ahead of the curve with Carter-Williams at $6,600, Ennis at $6,000 and Ross at $7,500. Yahoo has Ross at $21 and Carter-Williams at $15. With everyone else at the $10 minimum salary, feel free to mix and match, though more than two Orlando players per roster is going to be risky. On FanDuel Carter-Williams is an NBA DFS pick at $5,500, but Ross is at $6,900 and none of the other players are particularly intriguing. Buyer beware is the slogan for this squad tonight.

Yahoo Daily Fantasy Basketball Discount Dandies

  1. Kendrick Nunn: MIA at CHA – $14

  2. Danuel House: HOU at MIN – $11

  3. James Wiseman: GSW vs. ATL – $10

SuperDraft Daily Fantasy Basketball Picks

  1. Karl-Anthony Towns: MIN vs. HOU – 1.10x multiplier

  2. Bam Adebayo: MIA at CHA – 1.25x multiplier

  3. Michael Carter-Williams: ORL vs. POR – 1.80x multiplier

Final Thoughts on Friday, March 26th NBA DFS Slate

Four teams playing tonight are on back-to-backs, and seven more play again tomorrow. Additionally, over half of the teams on tonight’s slates were involved in a trade, so there will be major changes to several rotations. Keep in mind that salaries and scoring formats differ across the various fantasy sites, and a slam-dunk play on Yahoo may be a below-average NBA DFS pick on DraftKings or FanDuel.
