NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks, Thursday, June 10

Yahoo Play of the Day — Paul George: Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 43.51 | DraftKings: 45.96

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 35.4% | FanDuel 36.2% | DraftKings 37.4%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $38 | FanDuel $9,200 | DraftKings $8,500

After a less-than-stellar Game 1, FanDuel and DraftKings have dropped the salary for Paul George by a touch. Much like the analysis for the last matchup, considering George over teammate Kawhi Leonard comes down to the 12 to 17% salary discount. Leonard is the luxury option in main lineups where Giannis Antetokounmpo should be the focus. However, one can move away from George once they start branching out with lineups and iterations. Paul still projects as one of the best point-per-dollar plays among the stars, and by getting creative, gamers can find the elusive differentiation that will be needed in the large-field tournaments. George is in the top five for raw fantasy points according to Awesemo’s expert projections, and he has around a 30% chance of finishing in the top three, so he is by no means a bad play in any format.

Kevin Durant: Brooklyn Nets at Milwaukee Bucks

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 52.73 | DraftKings: 55.2

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 37.8% | FanDuel 47.2% | DraftKings 40%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $48 | FanDuel $10,700 | DraftKings $10,600

Kevin Durant is the perfect leverage option away from Antetokounmpo. Depending on the DFS site of choice, he is checking in with a 5 to 11% salary discount and similarly projected fantasy production. Durant is going to see between 20 and 25 field-goal attempts, and another underappreciated aspect of his game is that he is averaging 2.1 blocks and 1.2 steals per game in the postseason. While he only has tallied double-digit rebounds twice, there is attainable upside that could have him cresting over 60 fantasy points in this road matchup.

Good Value

Brooklyn Nets at Milwaukee Bucks

James Harden is out with his hamstring injury suffered in the opening minute of Game 1, and Jeff Green remains out with plantar fasciitis, though there is a slim chance he will return early next week. That means that once again the Nets will need to fill a major void left by Harden. Blake Griffin, Bruce Brown and Mike James are going to be the core value picks to target tonight. On Yahoo, all three are going to be wildly popular with their near-minimum salaries. FanDuel has increased the salary for Brown the most, but he is still in play even at $5,900. Although Griffin ($5,500) and James ($4,800) also saw increases, in a vacuum they are better plays.

The FanDuel power forward position is a wildly popular Giannis and then one of Marcus Morris, Royce O’Neal or Griffin, with P.J. Tucker essentially an afterthought. However, when rolling with James at point guard, there is some opportunity cost with losing out on either Kyrie Irving or Jrue Holiday. On DraftKings, where there is additional position flexibility, this bargain Nets trio will be nestled among the six most popular plays on the entire slate. Do not overthink this situation.

Risky Value

Marcus Morris: Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 20.71 | DraftKings: 21.41

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 20.8% | FanDuel 33.0% | DraftKings 27.8%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $16 | FanDuel $5,300 | DraftKings $4,500

The Awesemo Boom/Bust tool is not a believer in Morris on FanDuel today. In main lineups, gamers should pair Antetokounmpo and Griffin, but around lineup 5 or 6, Morris enters the mix as a differentiation/leverage option. there is currently a 29% probability that Morris will be in the FanDuel optimal lineup, which is in line with his projected popularity. While there is not a lot of upside considering his slim 2.6% likelihood of falling below his boom score of 36.5 FanDuel points and a whopping 67.9% chance of him missing his bust target of 26.5 FanDuel points, look at the ripple effect of this decision. If pairing Morris with Antetokounmpo, then the hope is that Griffin has a poor game. However, if eschewing Giannis for a not so dynamic duo of Morris and Griffin, then gamers will also need to factor in how to reallocate salary cap with upgrades at two or three positions. This is the next-level strategy that is key in the giant-field tournaments for the two-game playoff slates.

Yahoo Daily Fantasy Basketball Discount Dandies

  1. Ivica Zubac: LAC at UTA – $11

  2. Nicolas Batum: LAC at UTA – $12

  3. Derrick Favors: UTA vs. LAC – $10

Final Thoughts on the Thursday, June 10 NBA DFS Slate

The injury to James Harden will once again be providing opportunities for several Brooklyn players to step up and grab the brass ring. Keep in mind that salaries and scoring formats differ across the various fantasy sites, and a slam-dunk play on Yahoo may be a below-average NBA DFS pick on DraftKings or FanDuel.
