NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks, Saturday, Nov. 6

Yahoo Play of the Day — Devin Booker: Phoenix Suns vs. Atlanta Hawks

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 37.68 | DraftKings: 39.7

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 27.6% | FanDuel 17.0% | DraftKings 15.9%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $32 | FanDuel $8,300 | DraftKings $8,500

On Wednesday, it was Chris Paul who was our Yahoo Play of the Day with Devin Booker a smidge behind. Paul rewarded his supporters with a second 50-plus fantasy-point outing, though it was on the strength of seven combined blocks and steals. Phoenix does not play again until Monday when they head to Sacramento. Paul and Booker have continued to get better from a fantasy perspective as they learn to coexist on the court at the same time. Booker has seen 15% increase in his per-minute fantasy production with Paul this year, using their inaugural season as a baseline. There is also room for continued improvement for Booker, who has struggled from the field with just a 41% success rate this season compared to his career 45.4% rate and his 48.6% rate over the last two full seasons. Atlanta does have the firepower to keep this game close, as evidenced by the Suns being only 4.5-point home favorites. However, they have the sixth-worst defensive efficiency rating, allowing 107.9 points per 100 possessions. Booker is the top backcourt option on Yahoo today, however, Paul ($35) is close behind; and both can be employed on the same lineup along with and Atlanta player for in-game synergy.

Anthony Davis: Los Angeles Lakers at Portland Trailblazers

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 47.88 | DraftKings: 48.24

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 7.8% | FanDuel 7.3% | DraftKings 6.5%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $49 | FanDuel $10,600 | DraftKings $10,500

Yes, it does seem that Anthony Davis can be seen writhing in pain on the court at least once per game. However, the Lakers are now 5-4 and LeBron James is legitimately hurt. Portland is coming off a back-to-back having bested the visiting Pacers last night 110-106. Damian Lillard (41) and C.J. McCollum (38) both played heavy minutes last night and Jusuf Nurkic seems to be unofficially capped at 28 minutes while averaging just 25.3 on the season. Russell Westbrook ($45) will be drawing plenty of attention and Davis is coming off 53.3 and 64.1 Yahoo fantasy point games in his last two without James. The only concern is that Davis is dealing with a sprained thumb, but it is hard to see him missing this game. If he is ruled out, by all means, load up on Westbrook, otherwise hold firm, but have a late-swap backup plan since this is the final game of the night.

Jayson Tatum: Boston Celtics at Dallas Mavericks

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 42.13 | DraftKings: 44.1

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 32.2% | FanDuel 27% | DraftKings 22.3%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $41 | FanDuel $9,500 | DraftKings $9,600

This has been a disastrous season for Jayson Tatum, who is mired in one of the worst shooting slumps of his career. In each of his four seasons, he has a 45%-plus success rate from the field, however, this year he is all the way down at 37.3%. Things seemed relatively normal through his first four games and while he was averaging a healthy 10.5 3-point attempts per game, he was making them at a respectable 33.3% clip with a 42.7% overall success rate.

Unfortunately, his last five games have been in stark contrast and while he has dialed back his volume from downtown, he is shooting a poor 17.9% on 5.6 3-point attempts per game. Things are just as bad overall with an anemic 32.4% conversion rate. There is no reason to write off the 23-year-old just yet and he does not seem to be harboring any injuries. The Mavericks are a mediocre defense, and with his discounted Yahoo salary, now is the time to take a chance on the two-time All-Star.

Yahoo Daily Fantasy Basketball Discount Dandies

Alex Caruso: Chicago Bulls vs. Philadelphia 76ers

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 19.46 | DraftKings: 18.91

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 14.8% | FanDuel 11.9% | DraftKings 20.9%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $13 | FanDuel $4,700 | DraftKings $3,900

In five of his last six games, former Laker Alex Caruso has topped 20-plus Yahoo Fantasy points. He is among the league leaders in steals and generally sees 26-30 minutes off the bench in close games. The Bulls have been off to a hot start and their defense has been surprisingly good considering how many new players they are working into the rotation. Funny things tend to happen on Saturdays in the NBA with random players being ruled out and while other value options are likely to appear, do not lose track of Caruso if there is an abundance of late-breaking news.

Philadelphia 76ers at Chicago Bulls

Once again we will be looking to the short-handed 76ers as a source of bargain options. Ben Simmons is unlikely to play before Thanksgiving, if he ever suits up for Philadelphia again. Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle and Isaiah Joe are all in the health and safety protocol while starters Furkan Korkmaz (wrist) and Danny Green (hamstring) are game-time decisions. Shake Milton is the top priority, particularly if he is starting again as he no longer has a minutes limit and played 34 in a spot start in Detroit on Thursday. Georges Niang continues to knock down 3s and chip in with rebounds, so he is looking like a steal on Yahoo at only $11 tonight. Seth Curry and Tyrese Maxey get a boost if one or both of Korkmaz and Green are out and, either way, they should be in our player pool with only five games on the main-slate.

Final Thoughts on NBA DFS picks for the Saturday, Nov. 6 Slate

Tonight the main slate tips off at 7:30 p.m. ET with games staggered throughout the night. Naturally, the Lakers and Trail Blazers are in the final game of the night, so watch out for any news on Anthony Davis (thumb) and Portland, who hosted Indiana Friday night. Keep in mind that salaries and scoring formats differ across the various fantasy sites, and a slam-dunk play on Yahoo may be a below-average NBA DFS pick on DraftKings or FanDuel.
