Ariel Epstein shares her must-play, value play, and a fade for the NBA DFS slate on Friday, Dec. 31
ARIEL EPSTEIN: Welcome to Yahoo Daily Fantasy. I'm the prod queen Ariel Epstein. It is New Year's Eve day, and happy new year to everybody watching this. Let's get some passion, end 2021 on a high note.
For Daily Fantasy today, I am playing the All-Star, the point guard of the Portland Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard. He's up against the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, he's $38 in worth it because the Lakers are bottom 10 in points, rebounds, and assists allowed to their opponent.
Damian Lillard up against the bottom 10 defense this year. He's averaging just under 28 points per game, just over 4 rebounds, and just under 9 assists. He went up against the bottom 10 defense.
But the Lakers have been struggling in points allowed in the paint, and their last three games, they've been up four points allowed more in the paint than they have off their season average. Give me $38 worth of Damian Lillard in my lineup tonight.
My value play is $19 for the Knicks center, Mitchell Robinson. He's up against the Oklahoma City Thunder who allow the most rebounds per game to their opponents this season. Julius Randle, the leading rebounder and scorer on this Knicks team is actually in COVID protocol.
Which means, someone has to step up underneath, that's going to be Robinson. He's played well against teams that are bottom 10 and rebounds allowed. Robinson's averaging just over 10 points per game and just under 11 rebounds per game against those types of defenses. Give me a $19 value play for Mitchell Robinson.
My fade play for $40, it's for the Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns. I'm not crazy, I know he's been on the COVID list for the last week. This already happened last Thursday, there is a chance he gets activated. If he is, then I'm fading Karl-Anthony Towns tonight. He's just too pricey up against the top 10 defense in the Utah Jazz.
He went up against the top 10 defense in points allowed, cuts only averaging just over 21 points per game, just under nine rebounds and just over three assists. For $40, he just doesn't have the production value against a team that ranks seventh in points allowed to their opponents in the Utah Jazz. If Karl is activated tonight, I'm fading him for the $40.
Here's my NBA DFS Recap. For $38, I'm putting Damian Lillard in my lineup. For $19, my value play is Mitchell Robinson, and for $40, no, I am not playing Karl-Anthony Towns against the top 10 defense in the Utah Jazz if he is activated off the COVID list. That's it for me, the prod queen, Ariel Epstein here in NBA Daily Fantasy. Good luck tonight and happy new year.
